Turnigy Nano-Tech Batteries

Postby Buzzard » Tue Aug 17, 2010 6:46 am

I am considering purchasing a couple of the new Turnigy Nano-Tech batteries. The 3300mAh 6S1P 25~50C and the 5000 mAh 3S 25~50C. Has anyone tried these new nano-tech batteries? Can you charge these with a standard LiPo charger? How would you compare them to the normal Lipo batteries of similar capacity?

I don't have any of the Nano-tech batteries myself but initial feedback seems to be positive. They do hold their voltage better under load and will handle higher charge-rates than the regular lipos.

The only downside seems to be that they are physically somewhat larger (often longer) for a given capacity.

I was about to order some, but not with the current EMS shipping price issue.

Not helicopter related but I will give the Turnigy Nano-Tech batteries a HUGE Thumbs up!

I have an EDF Art Tech Eurofighter and have been flying it with Turnigy 1300 Mah and 1800 Mah 3S batteries...

The 1300 mah would give me 250 Watts initially, dropping to 200 after 2 minutes - They were nice and light and the aircraft flew very well and was manouverable. A loop from level flight is JUST barely possible.

The 1800 mah gave 320 watts initially, dropping to around 240 after 2 minutes - They were heavier and required a greater take off roll and the fwd cg made the aircraft very stable but less manouverable.. a loop from level flight is impossible.

Today my order of 3 x 1300 mah and 2 x 1600 mah Turnigy Nano-techs arrived.

The nano 1300s gave me 300 watts initially, dropping to 240 afer 2 mins (a big improvement over the standard Turnigy 1300) and they are lighter and smaller to boot.

The nano 1600s gave me 350 watts initially, dropping to 280 after 2 mins.. again a big improvement on the std 1800s and they are 20 grams lighter.

I then flew both.. the 1300's were awesome, the Eurofighter took off in half the normal distance on grass and climbed out at a 45 degree angle (I get around 20 degrees on standard 1300's)

It was faster and was able to sustain multiple loops from level flight - a huge improvement

The nano 1600s again were awesome - the Euro took off very well and climbed at around 60 degrees - They were light enough to give me much better manouverablity that the std 1800s. and I beleive are the ideal battery for this plane... I have been flying it almost daily for a month but today was by FAR the most enjoyable the Euro has been for me..

I immediately ordered all Hobbykings remaining stock of 1600 nano tech batteries (only 4 at the time...)

Hope this helps.. but I will only be ordering nanos in the future.. they can be charged at 5C to boot.. My chargers can't do that, but I can charge them in 20 minutes, compared to an hour for the std turnigys...

As I said, they get a HUGE Thumbs up from me.

I just got my first last week (3000mah 6s 25 to 50c) and they are very good I did 3 cycles on my charger it has cycles as a function then the next day I had a mild flight, at about 7 mins I gave my Atom 500 some big cyclic pumps to see if there was any power reduction and I can say no they seemed very responsive and very good so at 7 mins and 30 sec's I landed and the4 Lipo was warm but not hot.

1/2 an hour later I hooked it up to my car battery and charged at 10.2 amps in 17mins .05sec I put back 2355mah and the lipo was cold or ambient as it was a warm day.

One very happy pilot all for $50 USD

Im getting 3 more 3300 6s nano's in the next few weeks
