$8 Battery Mod (Help Bruce)

Postby av8nmac » Sun Aug 08, 2010 3:06 pm

Bruce I figured out why my voltage display was all over the place. By the looks of it I applied way too much heat and delaminated the trace from the 512 resistor to the (yellow) component above it. I was hoping with your expertise, you could help me salvage this project. I have attached a few pics of the damage. I would appreciate any help you could offer.

Thanks,

Paul

I'll hunt up my schematic and look see what the values are. You can bridge the missing copper with a regular resistor to replace the SMD one that's now missing.

Bruce, is the net result to have a 3.15k resistor ( 5.12k parrallel with a 8.2k) in place of the 5.12k resistor?

Thanks,

Paul

Bruce, any luck finding the schematics for the Tx ?

Thanks,

Thanks again for the link to the schematics. From what I can tell by soldering the 8.2k resistor in, we are in effect making the circuit think it is a 3.1k resistor instead of the 5.12k resistor that's surface mounted. Any electronically inclined folks concur with this? This problem is way above my pay grade. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Paul

Well, fixed my problem by soldering in a 3.2k resistor (close as I could get to 3.1k).

Thanks to all that offered help.

Yes, the additional resistor is to change the total resistance to a lower value (can't remember what I calculated it to be but it was round 5.?? K Ohms. I figured it would be easier for most folks just to jumper the existing resistor with a readily available value than to remove the SMD one and find a close match in SMD form.

Hi guys, im having a little trouble of my own. Im really hoping someone can charm in on my issue. I installed the 8.2K ohm resistor and when i turned the radio on i got a reading of about 10.8v (with the Li-ion batteries of course). But to my surprise, about 15 seconds later, the voltage readout just shot up to 13.6v and it has stayed there. I removed the resistor thinking maybe something might have gone wrong with it, but even after removing the resistor, my voltage readout still shows a constant 13.6v (still using the Li-ion batteries). Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. If pictures are needed I can make some. Thanks.
