X-Plane 10 Collective Build

If you've been building electronic bits or modifying stuff you've bought then tell us all about it here. A good place to discuss the installation of 2.4GHz DIY modules too.

X-Plane 10 Collective Build

Postby PNut » Sun Mar 16, 2014 3:49 pm

I fly TREX 600 ESP RC helicopter; and as an arm-chair pilot, X-Plane 10 on a new 27” iMac running OSX Mavericks.

I have some knowledge of electronics theory from watching YouTube, and have added LED lights with resistors for my TREX 600 ESP canopy.
So I can solder, crimp, and know how to use a GreenLee DM-60 multi-meter.

I’m going to build a helicopter collective for X-Plane 10 that is USB 3 “plug ’n play” using:

- 12” - 1/2” PVC for the shaft
- 5” - 3/4” PVC for the throttle. I have a Google SketchUp plan free to use. (Can't attach it here for some reason.)
2 - HRS100 Series Hall-effect rotary position sensor, slotted shaft, straight solder lug, 180°electrical angle.
See “Tech Specs” - http://sensing.honeywell.com/product%20page?pr_id=47866

I have an extra USB 3 port.
Currently I use the CH Products joystick, and CH Products PRO Pedals, that already occupy two USB 3 ports.

Here’s my problem.

A controller or maybe two, is required, but I have no idea which one(s) to purchase.
I’m not sure what type of wire is required to connect everything together, due to current, voltage and resistance issues.
My iMac uses USB 3.0 ports, so I’ll need to purchase a USB 3 connector and cable. 5.00+0.25-0.55 V (USB 3.0)
Apple USB 3 tech data: • Up to 900 mA (milliamps) at 5 V (Volts) to most Apple USB peripherals and all USB peripherals not made by Apple in compliance with USB specifications.

Leo Bodnar Electronics stocks these items except the Honeywell sensor, but I don’t get a response from them.

Would you be able to assist me to choose the appropriate items?

Sincerely,
