Futaba's S Bus with non S Bus Servos

Postby lewisalvis » Sat Feb 18, 2012 10:36 pm

The SBD-1 decoder and the SBC-1 Channel set tool makes it possible to get up to 14 channels out of the 8 channel Futaba 8 FGA Super using either analog or digital servos. I have all the components but the accompanying install instructions leave a lot to be desired. Has anyone set one of these 8 channel radios up for more than 8 channels yet? I could use advice and guidelines to help set mine up.

I'm still not totally convinced that S-bus is a sensible way to wire our models.

The words "single point of failure" and "I2R losses" ring loud in my ears -- after years as an electronics design engineer.

It's a great way to sell RC systems -- by creating a point of distinction -- but from a practical perspective there are as many down-sides as up-sides.

I hope to get my hands on some S-Bus gear in the next month or two and I'll put it through the mill then. Because, who knows, I could be wrong.
