Electric motors and their opperation

Postby Royall » Fri Dec 27, 2013 6:20 am

Was wondering about what happens when the throttle is pulled back to a low speed from a high speed. Does the motor freewheel? Or, does being 3 phase act as a brake to slow the motor to the operating voltage of the lower speed? Hope this question makes sense.

Understand what you mean, the motor free wheels at zero throttle if "brake" is not programmed, but it will maintain the motor speed according to throttle application.
A free wheeling prop adds drag, as a matter of course I always engage "brake". ESCs that have a programming card are the easiest and least frustrating.
Not enough time in the day for all my crazy ideas, I'm not slow, I'm just pacing myself

Hmmm didn't even think of break! I'll look into that on the ESC's I have. I don't know if it is something I'll worry about for the time being. Need to understand my scratch foamies first. Thanks again for the help!
