What are you flying (3D) with?

Postby RCModelReviews » Mon May 17, 2010 3:01 am

I'm a fan of 3D flying and right now I've got a couple of Mojos (Mojo 40 and Mojo 60) in the hangar.

I did have a GeeBee but a while back, it passed on to the big 3D huckfest in the sky (YouTube video).

There's a Katana 46 ARF under my workbench just waiting for me to get around to building it (my Katana P was lots of fun), I have a Katana EP for parkflying (it sucks!) and sooner or later I'll build another profile.

I also have a 50cc Extra 330L but unfortunately the motor died in a harrier at about 20 feet so it's awaiting a new wing-tube and a rebuilt motorbox and undercarriage attachment.

What are you guys flying?

Got a U-can-do 46 on my bench, and it's been there for months.
My first 3D-plane actually. Looking forward to fly it though! But im so sloooow when it comes to finishing it
Will probably go faster once I get my new hobbyroom "running".

Im actually more of a speed/scale guy, so I dont know why I bought this U-can-do, but I'll see if it does any good...

I got myself a PA KatanaMini and I think it sucks. Maybe good for patern but hopeless at 3D. Presently I'm flying an electric 3D profile funfly from china, a cheapie but fly well and I love it except for it's electric :). Not too sure what name/brand as it's a floor model, without any boxes. Atm, building a kitset LamYAk and boy that's alot of work, least I get to nitro it. :)..

I fly 3D mostly with my little cst katana foamy. It's so much fun because it's such a low pucker factor plane. It's the bounce-and-go kind of plane.
My favorite 3D plane by far (was) the tribute FX by e-flite. A while back the battery came un-plugged while in a nice knife-edge flat spin, and destroyed the plane. Unfortunately it's not made any more. :x the next closest thing is a gws Formosa 3D, which i will probably get.
I also have a 50cc size 1/4 scale patty wagstaff extra that i converted to electric. It hovers at half throttle, but the wing rock is horrible in a harrier, and it's actually sort of hard to get a nice torque roll. but the flat spins and knife edge it just awesome. It's intended to be more of a scale airshow aerobatic type plane anyways.

Happy flights!

I fly most scratch built!I like to experiment 3d design, they all are made of EPP.

Very nicely build, full fuse as well :). Have you got any video on how they fly? How long does it take you to build it?

Thanks Mr. Simpson and siang!
Well I don't count the hours , i have same fun to design/built and fly! the Hellcat(blue one my latest) took me more than 70 hours...i think?!?
There is the vid: http://www.youtube.com/user/jhonjhon101#p/a/u/0/bCvRuvJzA10
You can also check some other vid's of my built on YT jhonjhon101, they are all made of EPP and Coroplast as a wing beam, no carbon, the exception is the hellcat because i had to do a removable wing to put it in my car(60'' wingspan).
They manage pretty well crash!

Hacker A80-10 powered 2.2m Yak 54 on 12S5000 lipo. 2.7KW power to 24x12 birch prop. Great fun but I frequently get it wrong. Have since adjusted motor placement and it frequently locks into a torque roll now. And use 5mm reflex in the ailerons (up) which helps a lot in removing the wing rocking in the high alpha before popping into hover.

Near disaster at 3.30
