Recommendations on Choosing an RC car?

Hey guys! New to forums here and about to get a new remote control car for my self! My budget is around $800-$1300 max . Any recommendations? I was thinking of getting a buggy or even a rock crawler but not sure which one? Or should I get both?

So before I dump my savings I want to see what your recommendations are. Thanks!

FYI, I am from Chicago so not much rocks around here but still ha.
